Australian Superbike Championship to Staring
Cougar Bourbon Honda's Wayne Staring won his first Australian Superbike Championship with an eighth place finish on a rain-sodden day at Tasmania's Symmons Plains Circuit.

Staring came into the weekend leading the championship by 18.5 points over Wayne Maxwell (Demolition Plus GAS Honda Racing) and picked up a few points by finishing one spot ahead of him, fourth to Maxwell's fifth, in Saturday's race. That set up Staring to win the championship if he finished on Sunday, regardless of Maxwell's result. Even if Staring failed to finish, Maxwell had to win or take second to steal the title.

Ducati Motologic Racing's Jamie Stauffer led momentarily before Team Suzuki's Josh Waters took over until the third of 16 laps, when Maxwell went to the front. Once in the lead he streamed away to his fourth victory of the year. Waters finished second and Stauffer third.

Staring rode conservatively in the wet conditions to finish eighth and write his name into the Australian road racing record books. The 23-year-old is the only rider to have won the 125GP, Supersport and Superbike titles.

"I feel funny about it because that last race went so terribly. I couldn't see a thing out there and it was a real battle to finish," Staring said. "I couldn't help but think about the championship in today's race, I told myself I'd race to my own agenda, but there were people passing me left, right and center a,nd it was certainly on my mind.

"I'm so glad to have raced this season with Honda and the Cougar Bourbon Honda team. We've had such a successful year and this championship has come down to the effort of so many people. This is a huge achievement for us and it will probably take a while to sink in.

"Thanks also to Wayne (Maxwell) and the other riders who have pushed me every step of the way."

Maxwell was gracious in defeat and admitted that a few errors earlier in the season cost him the chance to launch a real challenge today.

"We were a bit behind the eight ball this year and it probably did cost us the championship, but second is a great result," he said. "I'm a racer, I want to win every time, but that's the way it goes. I've had a great year with all the guys and my team has really gotten behind me. The only option for me today was to go for the win and let the rest take care of itself. Congratulations to Bryan (Staring), who absolutely deserves this championship; he's had a fantastic year."

Maxwell finished the 2010 season just 6.5 points shy of Staring after 6 rounds and a total of 12 races.

Saturday's winner, Valvoline Superbike Team rider Glenn Allerton (Honda), was third today, giving him the overall weekend victory.

Allerton rounds out a Honda 1-2- 3 in the championship.

Racer's Edge Suzuki rider Scott Charlton was the first GSX-R1000 home in 2010, building a consistent campaign to finish a credible 4th.

Ducati Motologic Racing's Jamie Stauffer rounds out the overall top 5 on the 1198R after an up-and-down season aboard an all-new bike.

Team Suzuki's Troy Herfoss added a victory on Sunday to his Saturday race win, when he'd clinched the Insure My Ride Australian Supersport Championship.

Now the former AMA Supermoto champion wants to move to the Superbike class in 2011.

"My second season in Supersport has been close to perfect aboard the GSX-R600, it's all panned out how I had planned and now I am hoping to get the chance to get on a Superbike and keep chasing my dream," Herfoss said. "The Australian championship is very competitive and I really want to get a season or two behind me on a 1000cc machine before I look towards a ride overseas."

After several years as team manager for the Yamaha Motor Italia Supersport Team and then manager for the World Superbike Team from 2005 to 2010, Massimo Meregalli will now move across to join the Yamaha Factory MotoGP Team in 2011 in a management role. Joining the WSB team for 2010 to replace him will be current Moto2 team manager and fellow Italian Andrea Dosoli.

Massimo Meregalli’s career with the World Superbike Team reached a high in 2009, securing the World Championship title with American rider Ben Spies. Over the five year tenure under Massimo’s management the WSB team achieved an impressive 24 Superpoles, 104 podiums and 33 race wins with riders including Spies, Noriyuki Haga, Troy Corser, Cal Crutchlow, Andrew Pitt and James Toseland. The team also secured the World Superbike Constructors’ Championship in 2008 for Yamaha.

38yr old Andrea Dosoli brings a wealth of road racing experience to his new role with the team, having been chief mechanic, responsible for data acquisition, MotoGP team manager and Moto2 team manager/co-owner for the duration of the 2010 season. Andrea will take on the responsibility of team management with the Yamaha World Superbike Team from the 10th of November 2010.

Yamaha Motor Europe wishes to express thanks and appreciation for Massimo’s loyalty, dedication and hard work with the World Superbike Team and wish him all the best in his new role with the factory MotoGP team next season.

News from Valencia that Colin Edwards Goes Moto2, The last time Colin Edwards remembers riding a 600 was in the Supersport race at Daytona International Speedway in 1994. He finished ninth on a Yamaha. Fast forward 16-plus years and Edwards was back at the controls of another 600, this one the Honda-powered Tech 3 Moto2 machine of his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 junior team.

Edwards was asked by the team to use his considerable technical expertise to sort out a baseline for the team's homegrown Moto2 bike. The team is one of the few which builds its own chassis, which means only the team's two riders assist in the development. Tech 3 had limited results this year, with Yukio Takahashi winning in Barcelona, while Raffaele de Rosa was less successful. With Edwards' Monday free-he'll test the 2011 Yamaha YZF-M1 on Tuesday and Wednesday-and the team having signed two new riders, Bradley Smith and Mike Di Meglio, the team called on the Texan to get them off to a quick start.

Berger set for WSBK switch with Supersonic Maxime Berger is on the verge of making his long-awaited World Superbike Championship debut in 2011 as he nears a deal with the Supersonic Ducati team.

The Frenchman has raced in the Superstock 1000 series for the last three seasons under the Ten Kate Junior banner, but despite proving a consistent front runner he was unable to seal the title during that time.

Nonetheless, having finished runner-up for the second time in 2010, Berger is tipped to follow in the footsteps of runaway champion Ayrton Badovini by moving up to World Superbikes with the privateer Supersonic Racing outfit.

Taking the place of Luca Scassa, who has joined Triumph in the World Supersport series, Berger will be the team’s only rider in 2011, quashing rumours that he would be joined by BMW exile Ruben Xaus in an expanded effort.

"I can reveal that we're going to sign Maxime Berger, we just need to sort out a few details,” said Danilo Soncini. “I am very happy with this two-year agreement because the Frenchman is a sort of protégé of mine and our aim with him is to score our first podium in World Superbike.”

Now the third confirmed team to run a privateer Ducati in the absence of the factory effort, Soncini is confident of building on the promise shown by his fledgling team, which showed continual improvements during the 2010 season in the hands of Scassa.

Australian Superbike Championship Concludes This Coming Weekend At Symmons Plains Raceway

ASBK FINALE AT SYMMONS PLAINS

8 November 2010 – Just one more round for the season! The transporter has made its journey across Bass Strait and the Ducati Motologic Racing Team are soon to follow as they ready themselves for the final round of the ASBK season at Symmons Plains Raceway on Nov 12th-14th.

The team enjoyed terrific success at the 2010 MotoGP at Phillip Island last month with #27 Jamie Stauffer taking 1st place in the Superbike class for the event and #33 Jordan Burgess returning to his top 10 form even in the face of a recent surgery.

Can the Ducati Motologic team take it to the limit just one more time this season? Round 7 will again be held in conjunction with the V8 Supercars and both riders are looking to finish the season on a high.

There are a number of strong contenders taking to the 2.4km circuit this weekend and Stauffer is most definitely one of them.

#27 Jamie Stauffer: “I think we have a good chance to take the final round this weekend although the field is very strong. The Ducati 1198 is working really well now, we’ve found a good overall balance and I am confident going into this weekend. We are back on the Dunlop control tyre which I’ve never had any problems with so it’s all looking good. I had a great weekend at Phillip Island for the MotoGP so I’ll just be trying to keep that momentum going for this round at Symmons Plains.”

The team owner and manager, Paul Free is simply keen to put the Ducatis back on the track after success at Phillip Island.

Paul Free: “I’m really looking forward to the last round with the V8s. Jordy’s foot has healed well after his surgery so he should be able to perform at his best for the final round. The bike set-up is the best it has been for the whole year and I’m confident we could take the 1198 from circuit to circuit with minimal adjustments.”

The not-so-Rookie #33 Jordan Burgess is once again ready to push for a top 10 finish for his final campaign for the season.

#33 Jordan Burgess: “My foot has healed and I have been able to increase my training over the past month quite a bit so I’m ready to race at Symmons Plains. MotoGP was a pretty good round for me as I recovered from my surgery as I was able to finish in the top 10 once again. I was fairly sore after that event though! Now, I am going into the final round a lot stronger so I will be looking to make more head way into the top 10 ranks.”

The program for the event will be jam-packed with both motorbikes and V8s out on track and all involved will be hoping for better weather than was endured at Phillip Island for the previous event which was a gumboot manufacturer’s dream come true.

The final round of the ASBK begins on Friday as the bikes take to the track for practice.

The 68th edition of EICMA, the International Bicycle and Motorcycle Exhibition at Milan, which closed last Sunday, has seen a major presence of riders and motorcycles tied to World Superbike and Supersport.

Pride of place in the EICMA event, which was inaugurated by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, went to World SBK champion Max Biaggi who launched a special edition of the motorcycle with which he won this year's World Superbike Title.

The Aprilia RSV4R Factory APRC is equipped with a four-cylinder V65° engine, a new exhaust, Ride-by-Wire and a whole series of electronic gizmos to aid traction. The chassis is directly derived from the racing bike and is adjustable in three points.

Michel Fabrizio was there for his new team, Suzuki, the Italian showing the new Suzuki GSX-R 600 and 750 motorcycles to the public. The two sportbike have been completely redesigned with a new chassis frame and a series of lighter components. The GSXR-600 now weighs 187 kilos and has a declared power output of 125 bhp.

Superike, The Mickey Thompson Performance Tires MIRock Superbike Series, the world’s largest all motorcycle drag racing series, concluded it’s season this past weekend with the Lee’s Performance Finals at Steve Earwood’s legendary Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina. 416 bikes made the annual November pilgrimage to The Rock for crisp temps, a sticky track, big cook-outs and good times.

Twenty year-old Ohio rider Jeremy Teasley nailed down two HTP Performance Real Street wins on the weekend and celebrated his second championship in the class as well. Teasley took out Johnny “Turbo” Dobrin in the rain-delayed Maryland final on Saturday, then beat Adams Performance/RS Motorsports teammate Mark Billiter on Sunday after qualifying #1 with a record 7.835.

The Yanks love their raked out cruisers and after Honda with the Fury, Yamaha is the latest to cash in on the market with the 2011 Stryker. First and foremost, for any self-respecting cruiser aficionado in the US of A to swing his/her leg over the bike, it needs to be super low. Ironically, Americans are quite tall on average, but that’s another matter altogether.

The Stryker will satisfy most, with a seat height of a mere 26.4 inches and an obese 210-series rear piece of rubber. A raked front end rolls on 21 inch wheels, shrouded with real steel fenders, no less. The 1304cc V-twin sports fuel injection and dual counterbalancers that should do a lot to make it butter smooth.

Now, unlike most home-made shed jobs, the Stryker promises to be a pretty competent handler so that you don’t need to take a U-turn the moment the twisties arrive. A relatively fast, custom styled, agile and refined cruiser – now what will they think of next?

This Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Blake Young is hoping to return to racing next weekend at Round 9 of the AMA American Superbike series set for the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ, Sept. 3-5.

Young has been absent from the series since mid-June after sustaining an injury during a test session in Alabama.

Young fractured his L-1 vertebrae during the incident, and he has been in a soft body cast since then. After two months of physical therapy, exercise, and his doctor's recent go-ahead, Young is planning to race next weekend in New Jersey.

He'll first be testing his Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 in the middle of next week at the New Jersey facility to ensure he is physically prepared to return to the series.

Peter Doyle (team manager) says: "We want Blake back on the bike and out on the track, but we want him to be 100 percent ready. After the test, if Blake feels comfortable out there, we'll plan to be on the starting grid in New Jersey."

Young scored the first wins of his SuperBike career this year at Road Atlanta, and he was hoping to carry that momentum throughout the season. Despite being sidelined for three rounds of the series, Young is still focused on winning aboard his GSX-R1000.

Recently Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd has announced that current Yamaha Tech 3 rider Ben Spies will move to the Factory Team for the 2011 MotoGP season.The 26-year-old American, who won the World Superbike Championship with Yamaha in 2009, is enjoying an impressive first season in MotoGP. He is currently the leading rookie and the top satellite rider, lying seventh in the championship.

"We're delighted that Ben will join the Factory Team for next season," said Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing. "Ben has shown great promise in his first ten MotoGP races. He has learnt rapidly and recorded strong results, including a well-deserved podium finish at Silverstone - impressive for someone in their first full season.

"We believe that Ben will be a future title contender and that he will be a good fit with our team. His mission next year will be to continue learning, consistently challenge for podium places and try to win some races. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Herve Poncharal and the Tech 3 Team for taking care of Ben this season and for giving him such good training for the years ahead.
