After several years as team manager for the Yamaha Motor Italia Supersport Team and then manager for the World Superbike Team from 2005 to 2010, Massimo Meregalli will now move across to join the Yamaha Factory MotoGP Team in 2011 in a management role. Joining the WSB team for 2010 to replace him will be current Moto2 team manager and fellow Italian Andrea Dosoli.

News from Valencia that Colin Edwards Goes Moto2, The last time Colin Edwards remembers riding a 600 was in the Supersport race at Daytona International Speedway in 1994. He finished ninth on a Yamaha. Fast forward 16-plus years and Edwards was back at the controls of another 600, this one the Honda-powered Tech 3 Moto2 machine of his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 junior team.

Superike, The Mickey Thompson Performance Tires MIRock Superbike Series, the world’s largest all motorcycle drag racing series, concluded it’s season this past weekend with the Lee’s Performance Finals at Steve Earwood’s legendary Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina. 416 bikes made the annual November pilgrimage to The Rock for crisp temps, a sticky track, big cook-outs and good times.

The Yanks love their raked out cruisers and after Honda with the Fury, Yamaha is the latest to cash in on the market with the 2011 Stryker. First and foremost, for any self-respecting cruiser aficionado in the US of A to swing his/her leg over the bike, it needs to be super low. Ironically, Americans are quite tall on average, but that’s another matter altogether.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Blake Young is hoping to return to racing next weekend at Round 9 of the AMA American Superbike series set for the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ, Sept. 3-5.
Young has been absent from the series since mid-June after sustaining an injury during a test session in Alabama.
Young fractured his L-1 vertebrae during the incident, and he has been in a soft body cast since then. After two months of physical therapy, exercise, and his doctor's recent go-ahead, Young is planning to race next weekend in New Jersey.
He'll first be testing his Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 in the middle of next week at the New Jersey facility to ensure he is physically prepared to return to the series.
Peter Doyle (team manager) says: "We want Blake back on the bike and out on the track, but we want him to be 100 percent ready. After the test, if Blake feels comfortable out there, we'll plan to be on the starting grid in New Jersey."
Young scored the first wins of his SuperBike career this year at Road Atlanta, and he was hoping to carry that momentum throughout the season. Despite being sidelined for three rounds of the series, Young is still focused on winning aboard his GSX-R1000.

Recently Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd has announced that current Yamaha Tech 3 rider Ben Spies will move to the Factory Team for the 2011 MotoGP season.The 26-year-old American, who won the World Superbike Championship with Yamaha in 2009, is enjoying an impressive first season in MotoGP. He is currently the leading rookie and the top satellite rider, lying seventh in the championship.
"We're delighted that Ben will join the Factory Team for next season," said Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing. "Ben has shown great promise in his first ten MotoGP races. He has learnt rapidly and recorded strong results, including a well-deserved podium finish at Silverstone - impressive for someone in their first full season.
"We believe that Ben will be a future title contender and that he will be a good fit with our team. His mission next year will be to continue learning, consistently challenge for podium places and try to win some races. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Herve Poncharal and the Tech 3 Team for taking care of Ben this season and for giving him such good training for the years ahead. I hope that he will repay them by getting some more podium results in the second half of this season and helping them to secure top satellite team status at the end of this year."
Spies added "My first year in MotoGP has been a great learning curve and for that I have to thank Herve Poncharal, all the team at Tech 3 and especially my American mechanics who have stuck by me throughout this great journey so far. Having previously been to only four of the ten tracks to date, I have to be pleased with where I am and with having achieved my first podium so soon. I'm especially pleased that Yamaha have recognized the potential in me and given me the opportunity to step up to the Factory Team so early in my GP career. I believe that by working closely with the Yamaha staff and my mechanics we will be able to help develop the M1 and make the next step of challenging for regular podiums, followed by future championships."

Following his father, Graziano Rossi, Rossi started racing in Grand Prix in 1996 for Aprilia in the 125cc category and won his first World Championship the following year. From there, he moved up to the 250cc category with Aprilia and won the 250cc World Championship in 1999. There are a number of things that need to be taken into account when a person starts riding bikes. The riders who have gone through a motorcycle safety class are aware of these factors. In fact driving a motorcycle is quite different from driving a car. A bike offers very little protection to the rider compared to the other vehicles.
In a car or truck, the driver gets the safety of a big metal cage that offers some amount of protection from crash or external dangers. They also get the protection of a seatbelt. On the contrary, the Bike Riders have no such protection around them. The only protective elements for a bike rider are helmet and gloves.
Of course the helmet offers a fair amount of protection for the bikers head against collisions. It reduces the chance of serious brain injury after accidents in many cases. One can also wear the jackets to protect his body when driving the bikes. There are several kinds of jackets in the market and they provide different levels of protection. Armored jackets are the ones that offer a good amount of safety. They offer protection from hard hitting objects in the event of a crash.

The Italian motorcycle manufacturer
Ducati shocked the motorcycle racing world yesterday with a press release announcing they would be riding away from twenty-two years of World Superbike competition.
After having participated with a factory team in every edition of the World Superbike Championship since it began in 1988, winning 16 Manufacturers' world titles and 13 Riders' world titles along the way, Ducati said it ‘has decided to limit its participation to the supply of machines and support to private teams’.
"This decision is part of a specific strategy made by Ducati, the aim being to further increase technological content in production models that will arrive on the market in the coming years. In order to achieve this objective, the company's technical resources, until now engaged with the management of the factory Superbike team, will instead be dedicated to the development of the new generation of hypersport bikes, in both their homologated and Superbike race versions," declared Gabriele Del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati.
But fans and experts look to the recent changes in the competition’s regulations to equalize the 1200cc twin-cylinder machine with the 1000cc four-cylinder machines as weighing heavily on the shocking decision.
‘Recently the Superbike World Championship, according to the current regulations, has been interpreted as moving more towards competition between prototypes rather than for bikes derived from production machines,’ the press release from Ducati reads, ‘This has led to an increase in costs, both for the manufacturers and the teams participating in the championship. This picture does not correlate with the current worldwide economic situation, which has made the securing of sponsorship even more difficult.’
Not surprisingly World Superbike Championship promoters Infront Motor Sports have expressed their ‘disappointment and surprise’ at Ducati’s decision to withdraw from the series due to disagreements over equalization.
Diplomatically, Infront CEO Paolo Flammini expressed frustrated that Ducati has taken the sudden decision to walk away.
“It must be mentioned that last year, without the presence of a phenomenal Ben Spies, the Ducati 1198 would have dominated the championship with Haga and Fabrizio,” Flammini notes, “and it is therefore difficult for us today to comprehend this decision, which of course we must respect.”
The news comes as the racing world learned more of Valentino Rossi’s decision to leave Yamaha and join Ducati in the MotoGP racing series.
Citing the need for a fresh start as well as the decision of Yamaha's Motogp chief Masao Furusawa to retire at the end of this season, Rossi recently confirmed he would be changing rides for the upcoming season.
"So it looks like for me here, the time is finished, you know? So I need a new adventure, some new experience, but especially a new motivation,” Rossi told the British newspaper, the Guardian, “So, I decided for Ducati."
Meanwhile Ducati will continue to supply machines to customer teams into 2011.
"I would like to thank Nori and Michel, and all of the riders that have contributed to the great history of Ducati in Superbike, but above all the Ducati employees; it is their hard work and professionalism that has allowed us to achieve such important results,” Gabriele Del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati said in the statement.
